How to check if AI mentions your med spa (a 15-minute owner check)
By the FirstInChat team
A guest new to town types a question into an AI assistant: "Best med spa for Botox near me?" The assistant answers with two or three names. Is yours one of them?
Most clinic owners have never checked. This guide shows you how to find out in about 15 minutes, with no special software: guest-style prompts by treatment and city, a yes/no log, and a monthly cadence. You'll also see what website signals to check next.
This guide is for independent med spas and aesthetic clinics (and whoever runs your marketing). It is not medical advice and makes no clinical outcome claims. Check your state advertising rules for medical / aesthetic services before you publish claims. We are not giving legal advice.
Honest product note: FirstInChat's free audit today is a website readiness check plus a Google Gemini snapshot from built-in knowledge only (ungrounded: no live search; may be out of date; not AI Overviews or AI Mode). Grounded Gemini + Google Search comes later, with no date. We do not claim ChatGPT or Perplexity product results. Nobody can promise that any AI assistant will name your clinic.
One more honesty note: AI answers change. They can differ by wording, location, the assistant, and the day. Treat what you find as a snapshot, not a ranking. That is why the method below uses the same questions the same way, again and again, with a yes / no named log only.
Why check at all?
Guests have always asked friends, Google, Instagram, and review sites who to see. Now some also ask AI assistants, and the answer is a short list instead of ten blue links. If you aren't on that short list, the guest may never open your site. Checking costs you a few minutes. Not checking leaves you guessing.

Step 1: Write guest-style prompts (treatment + city)
Don't type your clinic name. Guests usually don't know it yet. Write 8 to 10 questions the way a real person would say them. Mix find-a-clinic, treatment, and practical prompts. Use your own city and neighborhood names.
- Find a clinic: "Best med spa in [your city]?"
- Treatment + city: "Botox in [your city]"
- Treatment + neighborhood: "Laser hair removal near [your neighborhood]"
- First-timer: "Med spa for first-time injectables in [your city]"
- Skin: "Hydrafacial in [your city]" or "chemical peel clinic in [your city]"
- Body: "CoolSculpting near [your city]" (only if you actually offer it — stick to services on your site)
- Practical: "Med spa in [your city] accepting new clients"
- Consult: "Aesthetic consult in [your city]"
Include the treatments you most want more of. Keep wording factual — no outcome promises in the prompts or on your site.
Step 2: Ask each question the same way, every time
Open an AI assistant guests are likely to use. A private or logged-out window helps so your own history doesn't color the answer. Paste each question exactly as written.
Google's AI-style answers are a practical place to start, because many people already search on Google. Then, if you like, repeat the same questions as a manual spot-check in ChatGPT or Perplexity — keep each assistant's results in its own column so you don't mix them up. A manual owner spot-check is fine. FirstInChat does not claim ChatGPT or Perplexity product results.
Step 3: Log yes / no named only
For each question, record four things in a simple table (a spreadsheet or notebook is enough):
Question | Were you named? (Yes / No) | Who was named instead? | Source or website shown (if any) |
|---|---|---|---|
Best med spa in [city]? | Yes / No | ||
Botox in [city] | Yes / No |
Three things to look for:
- Named or not named. Count the questions that name you. Yes / No only — not a "rank" or position.
- Who is named instead. These are your real AI-era competitors. They may not be the clinics you think of as rivals.
- Details if you are named. Hours, services, location. AI can be wrong, and wrong details confuse guests.

Step 4: Check the website signals behind the answer
AI assistants lean on information they can find and understand. If your site is vague or thin, you give them little to work with. Open your own website and check these readiness items:
- HTTPS
- A sitemap
- robots.txt does not block AI crawlers
- A clear page title (what you are and where)
- A clear homepage headline — service + place in plain words, not only a slogan
- FAQ with real guest questions (bonus: FAQ markup)
- Structured data that matches real facts only — never invent ratings
- Reviews visible and linked on your site
- An llms.txt file as a cheap extra (nobody can promise assistants read it today)
Tick off which ones you have. The gaps are your to-do list. The free FirstInChat audit scores these readiness checks and adds an ungrounded Gemini built-in-knowledge snapshot (may be out of date; not AI Overviews or AI Mode).
Step 5: Read your results
- Named for most questions: keep details accurate and keep earning honest reviews.
- Named for some: look at which treatment or practical prompts you miss — often your site has no clear page for that service.
- Named for none: don't panic. For many small clinics that is the starting point. The readiness gaps above are usually clear and cheap.
- Someone else is always named: open their site side by side with yours. What do they say that you don't?
Step 6: Fix the top three, then check again monthly
Don't try to fix everything. Pick three gaps, in this order of effort and impact:
- Rewrite your homepage headline (service + city/area).
- Add or improve a short FAQ or treatment page with answers you stand behind.
- Make reviews visible and linked; ask happy guests for honest reviews that mention the service they booked — without health details or incentives that break your board rules.
Then put a reminder in your calendar and repeat the same questions in a month. Because you asked the same way, you'll see whether anything moved. Changes can take weeks to show up, and sometimes nothing changes — keep the log.

Common mistakes
- Asking once and trusting it. One answer is a snapshot. Ask the same set again next month.
- Typing your clinic name. Guests looking for a med spa often don't know your name yet.
- Checking only from your own device and history.
- Treating a single answer as a rank or position.
- Fixing everything at once. Do the top three first.
- Adding clinical outcome claims or guest health stories to new copy. Stick to plain facts, and check state advertising rules.
If you'd rather have the monthly fix list drafted for you, Autopilot ($99/mo) is the done-for-you path, and Monitor ($49/mo) is the DIY path. Also available: Pro, $199/mo, for up to 3 locations or more support. Plans coming soon. No card. No checkout.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay to be named by an AI assistant? Not in the way you can buy an ad. What you control is how clear and trustworthy the public information about your clinic is: your website, your listings, and your reviews.
How often should I check? Once a month is enough for most clinics. Use the same guest-style prompts each time so results are comparable. Log yes / no named only.
Can I spot-check ChatGPT or Perplexity myself? Yes — as a manual owner spot-check with the same prompts. Keep a separate column per assistant. FirstInChat does not claim ChatGPT or Perplexity product results.
Why does my result differ from a colleague's? AI answers can vary by wording, location, device, and time. That's normal. Keep a log and look at trends, not single answers.
Does this work for clinics with more than one location? Yes. Run the prompts once per location with that location's city or neighborhood, and check each location's page on your site.
Do I need to share guest or patient information? No. Everything here uses public information: your website, listings, and public reviews. Never put guest health details into any AI tool or into review replies.
What does the free FirstInChat audit check today? Website readiness plus a Google Gemini built-in-knowledge snapshot (ungrounded; may be out of date; not AI Overviews or AI Mode). Grounded checks later, no date. Score + top 3 fixes. No card. No ranks or guarantees.
